One of the best ways to define a particular 'area' or create a certain type of atmosphere is the usage of cushions, in particular designer cushions, which can be made of the most luxurious fabrics, vibrant colours and created in the most elegant designs. In today's' marketplace there is no colour or fabric which can't be found and they are very high on the list of top home accessories. Whether you choose to highlight a conventional seating area or create a completely unique setting you will have so much fun taking the time to search out your favourite patterns and styles.
It is astonishing to think that you can bring the feel of a foreign country into your home by, for example, using designer fabric depicting a taste of the Middle East or perhaps a material using an Indian or African tribal print. This choice would immediately suggest a certain link with a particular Continent and set the tone for other different accessories to be used in harmony with your designer cushions.
It is also possible to actually source the original raw materials which would be used in the homelands enabling you to bring the whole thing to life and make your choices truly unique. The actual size and shape of the cushions is obviously one of personal taste but it is best to remember that they can be used outside a 'living area' and can brighten and personalise so many other spaces in the home especially the garden/conservatory areas.
It is now common place to use an abundance of cushions in the bedroom but maybe in some cases the look would be more effective if less were actually used and more unusual quirky fabrics utilised instead. Not only can you create an opulent atmosphere on the bed itself but you can also take this further into the room by perhaps 'dressing' a window seat, use an alcove as a display background for them or enhance a small bedroom chair.
Obviously it would not be practical to use the most expensive materials in a childs' room but you can still use specially designed safety cushions for this area using all manners of colours and patterns. Wherever they are used they are still functional and provide comfort and practicality in any space and a child would appreciate the addition of these accessories in any playroom, nursery or bedroom.
Whilst there is a veritable wealth of different materials from cashmere to leather, you should remember that only in a very few instances the designer cushions will not be in daily use so make sure that they are practical as well as comfortable. There is a misconception that silk, for example, is delicate but in fact it is incredibly hard wearing but it will fade if subjected to full sunlight so take time when choosing your fabrics and avoid heavily beaded or jewelled materials for every day use as they will definitely not be comfortable and should be used for special feature design areas. Whatever you choose you can be sure they are the perfect finishing touch for any room in the home.
